Biography
Born in Dublin Simon Taylor studied guitar in London, later attending many masterclasses with leading international artists including at Santiago de Compostela. He performed extensively throughout Ireland and in the UK, Spain, France, Iceland and the USA, broadcast on RTE radio and television and has recorded discs of Irish, Spanish and South American music. He ran the Irish Guitar Society for many years and was co-founder of the Dublin International Guitar Festival with Antonio Sierra, Direrctor of the Spanish Cultural Institute in Dublin.
In his subsequent career in music management Simon Taylor was Head of Orchestras at RTE (Irish national radio); Senior Producer, Classical Music for BBC Northern Ireland; Chief Executive of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in England and, most recently, Chief Executive of the National Concert Hall, Dublin. For BBC Radio 3 he produced a documentary on Andres Segovia, recorded in his home town of Linares, and a series of programmes on Spanish music and culture presented by the celebrated Irish author Colm Toibin.
Since retiring from the National Concert Hall Simon has enjoyed returning to his musical roots as a classical guitarist and being a board member of a number of music organisations.
